“Preservation of Peace”: The Logic of Deterrence and the Language of Military Capability

After the “Zeitenwende” (“turning point”) and with the new focus on national and alliance defense in Germany, classic military terminology from the 1950s has been reactivated. The article analyzes military terminology from a historical perspective and in the light of the fundamental logic of deterrence and the strategy of war prevention.
